Common Questions
Window Cleaning FAQ — San Clemente, CA
Answers to the questions we hear most often from homeowners across 92672 and 92673.
How often should I have my windows professionally cleaned in San Clemente? +
Depends on where you live. Pier Bowl and North Beach beachfront homes: every 6 to 8 weeks during marine layer season (June through September), 8 to 10 weeks the rest of the year. Talega and Forster Ranch: every 12 to 14 weeks year-round due to MWD hard water irrigation. Hillside homes inland: every 12 to 16 weeks depending on irrigation exposure. We assess your specific address and give you a recommended schedule.
What causes the foggy haze on my windows? +
One of two things: salt film or hard water mineral deposits, depending on where you live. Salt film is sodium chloride from Pacific ocean aerosol — it diffuses light instead of transmitting it, producing a hazy, frosted look. Hard water deposits are calcium and magnesium from MWD irrigation water that evaporates on your glass. Both require professional cleaning with the right chemistry to remove. Windex does not remove either once they have bonded to the glass.
Do you clean screens and tracks? +
Yes — on every visit, at no extra charge. Screens and tracks are part of the job, not an add-on. Salt-contaminated screens reinstalled on clean glass re-contaminate the glass within days. Grit in tracks scratches glass every time a window is opened or closed.
What is a RODI water system and why does it matter? +
RODI stands for Reverse Osmosis Deionised water. We purify our water to 0 parts per million of dissolved minerals before it contacts your glass. When pure water evaporates, it leaves nothing behind — no mineral residue, no spots, no streaks. Standard tap water in San Clemente has significant mineral content from the Metropolitan Water District. Using tap water to rinse windows just deposits those minerals right back onto the glass.
Can you remove hard water stains from Talega windows? +
In most cases yes, but the result depends on how long the deposits have been there. Stage 1 deposits (up to 4 to 6 months of accumulation) clean up well with professional mineral treatment in a standard visit. Stage 2 deposits (6 to 18 months) require multi-step treatment. Stage 3 deposits (18+ months of active irrigation exposure) may have begun etching the glass itself — at that stage some improvement is possible but full clarity may not be recoverable. We assess the stage before starting and tell you what to expect.
Do you do interior window cleaning as well? +
Yes. We offer interior-only, exterior-only, or full interior and exterior cleaning. Interior cleaning requires someone to be home. We schedule interior visits separately when needed.
Do you clean vacation rental properties? +
Yes. We maintain several Airbnb and VRBO properties in the Pier Bowl and North Beach areas on schedules built around checkout windows. We coordinate with property managers and cleaning crews and do not require the owner to be present. Salt film on ocean-view windows shows up in guest reviews — we keep them clean.
How do I know if my windows have low-E coating? +
Low-E glass has a thin metallic coating applied during manufacturing to improve energy efficiency. All Talega homes built from 1999 onward and most newer construction in Forster Ranch, Marblehead, and Rancho San Clemente use low-E glass. You can test for it by holding a flame near the glass and looking at the reflection — low-E glass will show a different colour reflection on one pane. We confirm glass type before any treatment. Razor blades permanently scratch low-E coatings.
What is salt film and how do you remove it? +
Salt film is a layer of microscopic sodium chloride crystals deposited by ocean aerosol — fine seawater droplets carried inland by coastal breezes that land on glass and evaporate, leaving their salt content behind. Over weeks, these layers accumulate into visible haze. We remove it with a salt film solution that dissolves the crystal structure, a microfiber sleeve scrub, and a RODI pure water rinse that leaves the glass residue-free.
